Day 1 Monday, 4th October
Starting our Pilgrimage
York to Glasgow
We gather in York before boarding our
coach to Glasgow, beginning our
pilgrimage. We will reach Glasgow in the
evening. We check-in to our hotel and the
rest of the evening will be free to find our
own dinner. Overnight stay in Glasgow.
Day 2 Tuesday, 5th October
Glasgow to Iona
This morning after an early breakfast we
will set off for Glasgow Station and board
the train to Oban. On arrival in Oban we
will board a ferry to take us to the Isle of
Mull, from here a short coach ride across
this beautiful Island to the ferry port of
Finnphort where we will catch the Iona
Ferry. On arrival on Iona we will proceed
to our accommodation. After an
introductory session for Evening Prayer,
we then have our first talk - on the
nature of the holy places like Iona, the
“thin places of the world”, where the
Divine often seems very close indeed.
Afterwards we will retire for dinner and
the Compline.
Day 3 Wednesday, 6th October
Iona - Celtic Quiet Day
After breakfast and Morning Prayer, we
will share a day of peace and reflection,
with scope for informal reflection and
discussion, and time to read, pray or
walk. We will celebrate the Eucharist
just before lunch. After Evening Prayer,
we will dine together and finish the
evening with Compline.
Day 4 Thursday 7th October
Iona - Iona’s Saints
The focus on the last full day of our
retreat, after sharing breakfast and
Morning Prayer, will be Iona’s saints -
holy people such as the Abbotts
Columba and Adomnam, and the great
missionary Bishop Aidan, who founded
the religious community on Lindisfarne.
There will be a Eucharist before lunch.
The afternoon will be free for reflection
and prayer. We will finish the day with
Evening Prayer, dinner, a drinks party
and Compline.
Day 5 Friday, 8th October
Iona - Journey home
After a very early breakfast and Morning
Prayer, we travel by ferry, coach and
train back to York, where we bid each
other farewell, refreshed in the spirit of
Iona.
